I’ve been sorting through some old photographs which feel somehow like postcards from my past and this one was taken in Sweden, lit by the midnight sun. It was during my very first tour with the Swingle Singers and the man in the picture is the wonderful tenor, Andrew Busher. He still sings with me in the Monteverdi Choir and Synergy Vocals and we have worked together now for twenty four years – unbelievable really. We’d had a great concert and were taken out for a party by the sea by some local choir members. They lit a bonfire and we drank beer and we ate barbequed shrimps and sang songs together.
I spotted Andy standing by the shore, drinking beer. I was struck how he appeared in silhouette as if he was playing some kind of primitive horn – perhaps summoning the fish?
This picture is taken at about 2am and it never got darker than this. It was a magical night! When Andy eventually left the group, I had this picture framed as part of his leaving present.
