This morning Clare Balding joined the many people who have contacted me, pleading live on Radio 2 for the theme music from the ITV Drama Home Fires to be released commercially. Well obviously she didn’t contact me herself…..sigh…..

Lots of people would like to get their hands on a copy of the sheet music too!

Here’s what she said:

Such is its popularity, that by today, 89 people have shared the link I posted on Facebook of the audio file from composer Samuel Sim’s Soundcloud profile. Nearly 4000 people have been reached – with no promotion apart from the original share at all!

My Partner’s sister (a very accomplished musician herself) was the first person to email me:

“Just been listening to the theme from Home Fires on Soundcloud, and I saw you were on it!! Great stuff Heather! Is the sheet music available yet? One of my choir is hoping we can learn it…”

On facebook people started asking me for the sheet music and I wrote to Samuel to ask him if it would be available in that format. He replied ”

“I’ve had an extremely positive reaction to the Home Fires music, so thank you once again for your beautiful singing! Hopefully I’ll be able to release the sheet music at some point, but I have to get approval from the several publishers that seem to be taking an increasing interest in it!
I’ll keep you posted.”

And now the lovely Clare Balding has called for its release!

She’s a national treasure for goodness sake! So I’m keeping my fingers crossed (for no other reason than I could claim the small PPL income from play on radio 2) – watch this space.

For me it was just another demo session – Micaela Haslam (Musical Director of Synergy Vocals) booked the four singers. I was lucky enough to be joined by a top team of session singers: Grace Davidson, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange and Rachel Weston) and we turned up at Angel Studios with the brief that Samuel Sim (The Mill, Coalition, Touch Of Cloth) wanted to record a few ideas in different ways so that he could put them together for a pitch to ITV. He was submitting music to try to become the composer for a new series called Home Fires. We often do this for TV and Ads but, to be honest, not many are successful.

First we recorded the four individual parts together as a quartet and then tracked them up. We then swapped music stands, sung the next part and did this again until we had all sung every one of the four parts. (I had to leave a couple of notes out of the top part as soprano I ain’t!)

Clare Balding credited us on Radio 2 as the choir – but there were really only four of us.

It’s very reminiscent of a (one off, I believe) CD I have, by an all female group of singers called ‘Damsel Jam’, which is totally amazing.

Hi, the link is only for the actual theme – the first 1:30 of the song “Siren” from the CD. I’ve absolutely loved singing it (on my own at the moment, but will hopefully be meeting with some friends to sing with all 4 parts soon – excited!), but it would be great to be able to sing through the full song as the middle section is amazing as well! Do you know if there are plans for the score for the full song to be released any time?

Hello there!
